Golden Eagles Fall at Home to UVA Wise on Friday

CHARLESTON, W. VA. – The University of Charleston Lacrosse program (1-1, 0-0 MEC) fell at home on Friday evening to the Cavaliers of UVA Wise by a score of 16-5 at the Welch Athletic Complex. The Golden Eagles were led by Emma Renda, who notched three goals while Elishia Davis notched a pair of her own.

Charleston started the game by getting on the board in the first 40 seconds of the game as Emma Renda found the back of the net for her first of three goals to put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0. Over the next 18 minutes of play, the Cavaliers got seven unanswered goals from six different players to extend their lead to 7-1.
 
Charleston cut into the lead with two goals in a three-minute span from Renda for her second and third of the contest to chop the UVA Wise lead to 7-3. Two late first-half penalties from the Golden Eagles forced the home team to play down as the Cavaliers scored two goals to carry a 9-3 lead into the break.
 
In the first half, the Cavaliers outshot the Golden Eagles 28-9 with a 20-7 advantage in shots on net.Kyra Tye made 11 saves in net for the Golden Eagles in the first half goalkeeper Elsa Girardo notched four saves for UVA Wise. UVA Wise took advantage of multiple foul calls resulting in a 7-1 advantage in free position shots in the first half.
 
The second half began with Elishia Davis notching a pair of goals (both unassisted) for the Golden Eagles to bring the score to 9-5. At the 22:31 mark of the second half, it would be all Cavaliers for the remainder of the contest as the visitors notched seven consecutive goals to finish out the contest and capture a 16-5 victory on the road.
 
For the game, the Cavaliers outshot the Golden Eagles 44-15 including a 32-10 advantage in shots on net. Tye made 16 saves in net for the Golden Eagles as the tandem of Girardo and Edwards made a combined 5 saves for UVA Wise. Charleston executed on 12-of-18 clear attempts while UVA Wise converted 14-of-15. The Golden Eagles received eight yellow cards (four each half) as the Cavaliers ended the game with none.
