Golden Eagles Down Mansfield and Shepherd in Final Day of Glenville Round Robin

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Golden Eagles Softball team (8-0) went 2-0 on Sunday at the Glenville round robin tournament. Charleston took a 6-3 win against Mansfield University, followed by a 10-0 victory over the Shepherd University Rams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1:
The Golden Eagles jumped on the board first in the top of the second inning as AJ Martin was walked with the bases loaded. Brionna Bowman was sent home for the 1-0 lead.
 
Mansfield took the 2-1 lead in the third inning on a 2RBI single from Joelle Snyder, and a double from Cassidy Smith.
 
The Golden Eagles to the 5-3 lead in the fourth, knocking in four runs. In the fifth inning, Destinee Miles sealed the deal for Charleston, hitting a homer to center field for the 6-3 win.
 
Carlee Lucas took home the complete game victory, moving to 2-0 on the season.
 
GAME 2:
After a scoreless inning from both teams the Golden Eagles had a major showing in the second, scoring nine runs on three hits.
 
A double from Destinee Miles scored the first three runs for the Golden Eagles. Two batters later, Megan Eder hit her first grand slam as a Golden Eagles boosting Charleston to a 7-0 lead before the end of the inning.
 
Kendall Marshall later hit a double that scored Janey Schmidt. Back at the top of the order, Destinee Miles was hit by a pitch that allowed Marshall to score the ninth run of the inning for UC.
 
In the fourth inning the Golden Eagles took the double-digit lead on a single from Karli Pinkerton.
 
Dani Bauer moved to 5-0 on the year, getting the complete game shutout.

 
NEXT UP
Charleston will head to Florida for the PFX Spring Games, kicking off with a 2:30 game on Monday against Clarion University.
