Lacrosse Defeats Ursuline 18-8 on Tuesday Evening

CHARLESTON, W. VA. – The University of Charleston Lacrosse program (3-2, 0-0 MEC) tallied their second win in a row on Tuesday, defeating the Arrows from Ursuline College by a score of 18-8 at the Welch Athletic Complex. The Golden Eagles, who reached 18 goals for the second straight game, were led offensively by Emma Renda, who notched five goals while Rachel Kerwin scored a career-high four goals.

From the opening draw, the game belonged to Charleston as the Golden Eagles rattled off five goals in a nine-minute span from four different players. The Arrows got on the scoreboard for the first time at the 21:52 mark in the first half, as Michaela Riley found Victoria Madray for a goal to cut the Arrow deficit to 5-1. Kerwin answered with a goal of her own at the 19:32 mark before Renda scored her third goal of the day at the 16:52 mark to push the Golden Eagle lead to 7-1.
 
After playing a man down in multiple situations, the Golden Eagles surrendered three goals to bring the game to 9-4 at the 4:11 mark in the opening half. Charleston finished the half strong, scoring three goals in less than four minutes to carry a 12-4 lead into the locker room.
 
Out of the break, Charleston scored two goals in less than 90 seconds which led to a running clock situation. Scoring was reduced in the second half as the Golden Eagles went on to score the first five goals of the half while Ursuline scored four of their own in the half. The final three minutes of play saw limited action after Meagan Helberr notched a goal at the 4:22 mark to cap the scoring for UC and secure an 18-8 victory.
 
In the win, the Golden Eagles saw their second-best program total of draw controls with 19 while Renda notched the 100th DC of her career.
