Men's Volleyball Hits the Road Against King University and George Mason

BRISTOL, TN – The Golden Eagles men's volleyball team hits the road this week as they are set to take on King University on Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. and will head up to Fairfax, VA for a 4:00 p.m. match against George Mason on Saturday, March 7. 
 
A LOOK AT KING
To this point in the season, the Tornado have an overall record of 7-9 with a 5-3 record in the conference of the Carolina's. King University is currently on a four-game losing streak having lost their previous three matches in straight sets. The Tornado play well at home as they have recorded a 5-2 in their gym while posting a 2-7 record when playing on the road. 
 
As a team, the Tornado have 565 kills with 270 attacking errors on 1425 total attempts netting them a hitting percentage of .207. They average 10.09 kills per set. They also have 531 assists as a team averaging 9.48 assists per set. 
 
In terms of defense, their team has 450 digs averaging 8.04 per set while averaging 2.12 blocks per set with a total of 119 on the season. 
 
They are led offensively by junior outside hitter Sean Kohlhase and freshman setter Jack Sarnowski. Kohlhase has 140 kills on the season averaging 2.64 kills per set and has a hitting percentage of .228. Sarnowski has 301 assists on the season and averages 8.14 assists per set. 
 
In terms of defense, the Tornado are led by senior right-side Julian Young and Sean Kohlhase. Young has tallied 50 total blocks on the year and averages 1.04 blocks per set. Kohlhase has 65 digs on the year and averages about 1.23 digs per set. 
 
In the match history between UC and King, UC has a 1-2 record. The two losses against the tornado came on the road in 2015 and 2017. Both matches ended in straight sets. The most recent meeting between the two teams was in 2019 at the Wehrle Innovation Center in Charleston, W. Va. Charleston took the match by a score of 3-1 over the Tornado. 
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
At this point in the season, the Patriots have a 9-7 overall record accompanied by a 4-3 record in the EIVA. They are .500 at home as they have a 6-6 record. 
 
George Mason as a team in terms of offense has 679 kills with 293 errors on 1618 total attempts giving them a hitting percentage of .239. They have 632 assists on the year averaging about 10.9 assists per set. 
 
On defense, they have 552 digs and average 9.5 per set while recording 134 blocks on the year averaging 2.3 per set. 
 
The Patriots are led offensively by senior outside hitter Sam Greenslade and redshirt freshman setter Zach Talamoa. Greenslade has 151 kills on the year averaging 2.6 kills per set and is hitting .209 on the season. Talamoa has recorded 363 assists on the year and averages 8.64 assists per set. 
 
On the defensive side of things, The Patriots are led by Sam Greenslade and junior middle blocker Jack Reese. Greenslade has 118 digs on the year averaging 2.03 per set while Reese has racked up 55 blocks on the season averaging .95 blocks per set. 
 
Charleston has squared off against George Mason 10 times in their history and has yet to win a match against the Patriots. Their most recent match was earlier this year at the Wehrle Innovation Center where the Patriots took care of the Golden Eagles in straight sets. 
 
CHARLESTON'S OUTLOOK
UC to this point in the season has a 4-11 record overall with a 2-5 record in the EIVA. They are 0-6 when playing teams on the road. 
 
As a team, they have 568 kills with 272 errors on 1351 total attempts giving them a hitting percentage of .219. They average 9.9 assists per set having a total of 515 on the year. They have 432 digs on the year averaging 8.3 per set. They have a total of 82.5 blocks on the year averaging 1.6 per set. 
 
UC is lead offensively by sophomore outside hitter Lachlan Bray and sophomore setter Diego Villafane. Bray has 119 kills on the year with a hitting percentage of .231. He averages 2.98 kills per set. Villafane has 453 assists on the season averaging 8.71 assists per set. 
 
In terms of defense, the Golden Eagles rely heavily on Villafane as well. He leads the team with 57 digs averaging 1.1 digs per set and also leads the team in blocks with 32 on the year averaging .62 blocks per set. 
 
UC is coming off of a road trip where they went 0-2 playing EIVA opponents Saint Francis University and Penn State University. They dropped both of those matches in straight sets. They will look to turn their fortunes around this weekend with a couple of opportunities to go on the road and take a couple of wins.
