Bray Sets School Record In Kills as UC Falls to King 3-2

Box Score CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Golden Eagles men's volleyball team traveled to Bristol, TN this evening to take on King University in a Thursday night match. The Golden Eagles fought the whole way but came up short losing to the Tornado 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC drew out the first set with the Tornado as the score was tied at 25 to force extra play. Neither team could seem to put the other away as multiple points were traded back and forth. The Golden Eagles could only hold on for so long as King would take the set by a final score of 28-30. UC had 18 kills on 37 attempts with five errors giving them a .351 hitting percentage. The Tornado had 19 kills on 38 attempts giving them a percentage of .342. Charleston had one ace, two blocks and six service errors compared to King's zero aces, four blocks and three service errors. 
 
Charleston could not answer the call in the second set as they fell by a score of 13-25. UC had eight kills on 21 attempts with seven attacking errors giving them a .048 hitting percentage. King had nine kills on 19 attempts with two errors netting them a hitting percentage of .368. UC had no aces, no blocks and five service errors. The Tornado had four aces, three blocks and three service errors. 
 
UC was able to grind out a win in the third set as they would take a win in a long hard-fought set. Charleston was able to force the game to a fourth set as they took the third 30-28. Charleston had 20 kills on 41 attempts with nine errors giving them a .268 hitting percentage King had 12 kills on 27 attempts with five errors resulting in a .259 hitting percentage. UC had three aces in the set, one block and five service errors. King had two aces, two blocks and two service errors. 
 
UC pulled out the victory in the fourth as they went on to win it by a score of 25-20. The Golden Eagles had 13 kills on 23 attempts with only two errors netting them a percentage of .478. King had 15 kills on 24 attempts with five errors giving them a .417 hitting percentage. Charleston had two aces, no blocks and three service errors while King had no aces, no blocks and four service errors. 
 
With the game coming down to the fifth set, Charleston could not ride their hot streak any longer as they fell 11-15. UC had seven more kills to add to the night on 20 attempts with three attacking errors giving them a .200 hitting percentage. King had nine kills on 15 attempts with one error netting them a .533 percentage. UC had no aces, no blocks and two service errors. The Tornado had one ace, one block and two service errors in the set. 
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Sophomore outside hitter Lachlan Bray had a monster game in terms of kills as he racked up a new school record of 27 kills in a five-set match. To go along with his 27 kills, he also recorded a .500 hitting percentage as he only tallied six errors on 42 attempts. Sophomore setter Diego Villafane had 57 assists in the match which ranks second in UC history by a setter just behind Anthony Rivera who had 58 back in 2016.

UC will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they will take on George Mason in Fairfax, VA in a 4:00 p.m. match.
