BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins' Daniel Cerezo, Alex Estrada-Avila and head coach Dean Johnson, along with Notre Dame's Ailton Silva, have earned top honors from the Mountain East Conference as the league announced its annual awards and all-conference teams.
The Golden Eagles had three players named to All-MEC First Team, two to the second team, two honorable mentions and one freshman selection.
First up for Charleston was defender Lucas Christensen. The sophomore from Denmark accounted for 2 assists on the year and was a force to be reckoned with on the back line for the Golden Eagles. The second selection was the speedy French forward Alexis Ledoux. Ledoux accounted for six goals and three assists in his seventeen games played during the regular season. Rounding out the first team selection was the Colombian veteran Gabriel Rodriguez. The graduate student was twice named offensive player of the week for the MEC and had nine goals on the season to go along with three assists.
The second team was highlighted by Eduardo Iranzo, Ploutarchos Alonefti and Luis Maestre. Iranzo who hails from Valencia, Spain played in fifteen games where he accounted for two goals and five assists. Ploutarchos Alonefti played in seventeen games and was responsible for five goals and seven assists. Finally, the lightning-fast forward Luis Maestre earned second team honors after he amassed two goals and three assists on the year.
The brick wall defender Emil Rasmussen was named honorable mentiona along with UC's leading goal scorer from Spain, Alejandro Larrayoz. Larrayoz played a total of 772 minutes but in that time he collected ten goals and two assists to lead the Golden Eagles on offense. He collected two goal on September 22 and October 24 against Alderson Broaddus and West Virginia Wesleyan respectively.
Luis Maestre was the lone Charleston player to earn Freshman team honors.
