Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Double Overtime Goal Leads Soccer to 1-0 Win Over Fairmont

Fairmont, W.Va- The Golden Eagle Women's Soccer team are wrapping up their regular season this week hoping to finish out the season on a nine game win streak. Their first game was an away matchup against longtime rival Fairmont State.
The Basics
Location: Duvall-Rosier Field
Score: UC 1 FSU 0
Records: Charleston (13-4-0, 12-3-0 MEC) Fairmont (7-7-2, 7-6-2 MEC)
How It Happened
Charleston has performed extremely well down the stretch after having a rough start to their season. Seniors have played large role in the success of the squad this year. Kaylee Hensley has been solid in goal all year and tonight was no different. The senior accounted for three saves and collected her eighth clean sheet of the season.

The story of the game was the physical play that would go on all night. Both Charleston and Fairmont saw themselves get into more confrontations than they were used to on the night. Both teams would have a player receive a yellow card late in the match.

The match would go all the way until the 106th minute without a goal. Both teams had ample opportunities but neither could find the decisive finishing play to put their team ahead.

That all changed when Keira Hill found herself battling for a ball in the corner that she deflected off a defender. She would quickly set up to take the corner and send a perfect ball in to Laura Vierhout. Vierhout would send one into the open net and send the Golden Eagle fans into a frenzy.

The win marked the eighth straight win for the Golden Eagles and would hold them in second place. With just one game remaining in the regular season the ladies will likely enter the conference tournament as a two seed behind Concord University.

Up Next
