The Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) named NJIT's Alvaro Gimeno the Offensive Player of the Week and Diego Villafane of Charleston (W.Va.) the Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 15, 2021.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Alvaro Gimeno, Sr., OH, NJIT

Alvaro posted a pair of huge performances during an important early-season weekend for NJIT. The 2020 EIVA Uvaldo Acosta Memorial Co-Player of the Year totaled 31 kills with just two errors to hit .644, adding seven digs, two blocks and an ace in a two-match split with No. 11 Penn State. He hit 15-1-22 .636 with three digs and a block during a 3-1 loss to the Nittany Lions on Saturday. He was even better Sunday, hitting 16-1-23 .652 with four digs, an ace and a solo block to lead a 3-0 sweep, which was the Highlanders' first win against the Nittany Lions since 1998 and just the second ever (46-2). This is Gimeno's third career EIVA weekly honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Diego Villafane, Jr., S, Charleston (W.Va.)

Diego had a major impact all over the floor in a weekend sweep at Saint Francis (Pa.). The junior setter totaled five blocks including a pair of solo stuffs, 14 digs, an ace and four kills as the Golden Eagles earned a 3-2 win Friday and 3-0 victory Saturday. He had two kills, seven digs and a solo block in each match. He also dished out 40 assists the first night and 32 the second, and of the four Golden Eagles who reached double digits in kills over the two matches, three hit over .500. This is the first weekly EIVA honor of Villafane's career.
