Box Score CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The nightcap of the doubleheader, Charleston came out on top defeating the Mountain Lions from Concord 3-2 after taking the last two sets of the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first set, the Mountain Lions got off to a quick start, taking the first three points of the contest. After settling in, the Golden Eagles were able to regain slight momentum with their deficit at just two with the score 12-10. Both teams began the match hitting very well, with the Mountain Lions (.278) and the Golden Eagles (.304) both finding success.
The tightly contested first set came to a close with Concord beating Charleston 25-16. In the set,
Rachel Phalen led the way with three kills, as the Golden Eagles had the team advantage in kills, 14-12. The last half of the set saw the hitting percentage of Charleston fall, as they finished the set at .186%. The advantage of in attack errors belonged to the Mountain Lions, who had just one compared to six for Charleston.
In the second set, the Mountain Lions maintained momentum from the start, holding the early 7-1 advantage. With Concord hitting .900% greater than the Golden Eagles in the set, a service ace from
Briauna Pauley got the ball rolling with Charleston steamrolling their way back to take their first lead of the set at 17-16. Leading 20-19 and forcing a Mountain Lion timeout, Charleston was able to take a 24-22 lead before the Mountain Lions tied it up at 24-24. A pair of points from the Golden Eagles including a kill and an attacking error from Concord allowed Charleston to tie the match at 1-1.
Neither team's hitting percentage eclipsed .170 in the set, with Charleston leading the category. After the second,
Jessica Sunnenberg (7),
Ally Fisher (6), and
Catherine Morris (5) led the way in kills for Charleston.
In the third, Concord once again got out to an early start, but Charleston quickly worked back to cut their deficit to just one at 13-12. After two straight from the Mountain Lions, Charleston was forced to take a timeout. Out of the timeout, Concord was able to roll and take the set 25-20 to increase their match lead to 2-1.
In a do-or-die set, Charleston surged out to an early 13-4 looking to force a fifth set. Charleston finished off the Mountain Lions by a final score of 25-11 which included a .400% hitting percentage and allowed the Golden Eagles to force a fifth.
In the final set, the Golden Eagles got off to a quick start in a first-to-fifteen set. Leading 6-0 out of the gate, Charleston forced the Mountain Lions to call a timeout in desperation. After scoring their first point, the Mountain Lions could not maintain possession of the serve, with Charleston winning five of the next seven points and holding an 11-3 lead. The Golden Eagles would go on to take the set 15-7
