CHARLESTON, W. Va. -- The University of Charleston Women's Soccer team defeated the Pioneers of Glenville State 4-0 on Friday evening at the Welch Athletic Complex. With the win, Charleston (1-0, 1-0 MEC) moves to 5-0 all-time against the Pioneers (0-1, 0-1 MEC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
With both teams getting their feet wet after nearly a 450-day layoff since their last matches, the Golden Eagles and Pioneers were both kept quiet on the offensive side of the ball through nearly the entire first half.

Following 36 minutes of scoreless soccer to begin the match, Charleston found their way onto the scoreboard after Kassandra Demps scored her first goal of the season off a touch from Shannon Henson. Much like last year, the goal would serve as the game-winner against Glenville, as Demps did the same in last year's 3-0 win over the Pioneers on September 25th.

With four minutes remaining in the half, newcomer Rachel Osborne would find the back of the net for her first goal as a Golden Eagle, assisted by Katy O'Reilly to increase the Charleston lead to 2-0 headed into the break.

As the second half began, action got quiet once again through the first twenty minutes before the Shepherd transfer, Kate Eddy, found the back of the net for her first career Golden Eagle goal. The goal gave Charleston a 3-0 lead as Henson was able to record her second assist of the contest.

To cap things off, Alex Speight, who scored her first career goal a season ago against the Pioneers, found the back, unassisted, to give Charleston a 4-0 lead which would stand for the remainder of the contest.

Overall, the Golden Eagles were able to put 17 shots up against the Pioneers, nine on net as Goalkeeper Jasmine Runk recorded five saves. UC Goalkeepers Kaylee Hensley  and Carol Burgess both had a quiet night, facing just one shot on net combined between the two.
