FAIRFAX, VA - The Golden Eagles men's volleyball team took on the Patriots of George Mason in a Saturday night EIVA contest. After three hard fought sets, Charleston fell to George Mason 3-0. Charleston comes out of the opening weekend of action 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston started off the first set against the Patriots strong as they tallied 14 kills on 29 total attacks giving them a hitting percentage of .414. George Mason recorded a total of 17 kills in the set on 30 attacks for a hitting percentage of .433. George Mason rallied back late in the opening set after being down to the Golden Eagles to win the set 25-23.
During a back and forth second set, Charleston started off the set strong, taking an early lead 12-9 before the Patriots stormed back. George Mason recorded 15 kills on 30 attacks with seven errors, while the Golden Eagles had 10 kills on 25 attacks accompanied by four errors. The Patriots took the hard fought second set by a score of 27-25.
George Mason closed out the game by a score of 25-18. They added 13 kills to give them 45 kills on the night. Charleston had 9 kills in the last set giving them 33 in three sets.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Junior Maarten Bartels led the way for the Golden Eagles as he was able to record 11 kills with a .360 hitting percentage, seven kills, and 14 total points. Sophomore Diego Villafane had 27 assists in the game along with two digs, and one ace. Junior Ian Barker recorded a .500 hitting percentage with five kills.

The Golden Eagles return to action next Friday as they travel to Loretto, Pa to take on Saint Francis University.
