Golden Eagles Improve to 10-0 with 82-53 Win Over Cardinals

WHEELING, W. Va.  – The No. 5 Golden Eagles came home with an 82-53 victory over the Wheeling University Cardinals on Monday night. Charleston was led by senior guard, Brooklyn Pannell who netted 41 points for the Golden Eagles.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
Both teams came out strong, keeping the score close, until roughly two minutes to play in the first frame as the Golden Eagles began to pull away with a 17-9 lead with just over a minute to go. Emily Holzopfel knocked down a three for the Cardinals to bring the score to 20-16 to close the quarter.  

Charleston opened up the scoring in second quarter with a three pointer from Abby Lee. Charleston's offense began to pull away through the second, ending the half with a 40-29 lead over the Cardinals  

In the first half the Golden Eagles went 12-for-33 from the field but shot an impressive number 70 percent from behind the arc. The Cardinals matched the Golden Eagles shooting 39 percent from the field, but only knocking down four shots from three-point land. 

The Cardinals closest point margin would come at halftime, as the Golden Eagles ran away with the contest in the second half. Brooklyn Pannell accounted for half of the Golden Eagles points with 41 points. Wheeling's Lilly Ritz notched her 25th straight double-double with 20 points and 22 rebounds.  

Charleston clung to their lead to finish with an 82-53 win over Wheeling University.
