CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Men's Soccer team improved their overall record to 5-0 on the season after defeating the Battlers from Alderson Broaddus 3-0 on Monday evening. The game played well back-and-forth until Charleston was able to score game-winning goal in the 28
th minute, as
Christos Charalambous found the back of the net off an assist from
Gabriel Rodriguez.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
With the first 18 minutes of the game playing evenly for both squads, it wasn't until the 28
th minute that the opening goal was scored. After a chase for the ball, Rodriguez was able to find the open Charalambous who stuck the ball past Battler keeper Diego Gomez to put Charleston ahead 1-0.
Just six minutes later, Rodriguez found the back of the net himself off a beautiful feed from
Alex Townley to
Alexis Ledoux, who then found Rodriguez to give Charleston a 2-0 lead headed into the break.
As the first fifteen minutes of the second half was tightly contested, it was Ledoux who found the back of the net on a header, assisted by Rodriguez for his fourth point of the game.
The final 30 minutes was physical, with three yellow cards being handed out. For the game, there were five yellow cards in total, with four from the Battlers and one from Charleston.
Charleston outmuscled the Battlers 16-4 in shots, including a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Marc Torrado was able to record four saves in net for the Golden Eagles, earning his third clean sheet of the season. Gomez recorded six saves on nine shots faced for the Battlers. In addition, the Golden Eagles held a 10-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
