HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half of the match played back and forth, but neither team was able to get the offense going through the first 42 minutes of play. With less than two minutes remaining until halftime, the Falcons found themselves leading 1-0 after Filip Sparevec found the back of the net which sent the home team into the locker room holding the lead.
In the opening half, the Falcons held the advantage in shots, ousting the Golden Eagles 8-3. Despite seven corner kick opportunities, the Falcon defense combined with weather allowed for Notre Dame keeper Arvid Engstrom to keep a clean sheet in the half.
In the second half, the offense continued to be held at a minimum until the 76
th minute. On a ball that looked to be headed out the back line,
Gabriel Rodriguez found a way to feed the ball towards the net to teammate
Alexis Ledoux who found the back of the net to tie the match at 1-1.
Holding the momentum, Charleston went on to score with just seven minutes remaining in the match after
Alejandro Larrayoz found
Adam Burchell right in front of the net to take a 2-1 lead. The Golden Eagles continued to play lockdown defense over the final few minutes of the match, eventually taking home a 2-1 win.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles were able to turn the tides and outshoot the Falcons 8-2. Charleston goalkeepers
Marc Torrado finished the game with two saves while Engstrom collected three.
