ELKINS, W. Va. – The University of Charleston's Men's Tennis team defeated the Senators from Davis & Elkins 6-1 on Saturday afternoon, winning in convincing fashion to conclude the weekend. Man of the match was Lennert Stevens who notched 2 wins and dropped only 3 games on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Coming off of a win against MEC foe Wesleyan, the Golden Eagles started slow dropping the doubles point. Lennert Stevens and Frantisek Pirek continued their winning ways taking 2nd Doubles by as score of 6-2. The Golden Eagles would eventually fall at the #1 and #3 doubles position, which gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead.
In singles it was a completely different story with UC sweeping all six courts. Pirek made quick work of his opponent and completed his undefeated record for the weekend, winning both singles and doubles on Friday and Saturday.
Krish Patel put the Golden Eagles 2-1 up with a win and 4
th singles by a score 6-3, 6-0. New nationally ranked (#47) John Giesberts again provided a solid win at 1
st singles by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
It was Lennert Stevens with the clinching match at 6
th singles, dropping only one game and barely putting a foot wrong. With the match decided 4-1, Marshall Dagostine (2
nd Singles) and Alex Martinex (5
th singles) completed the singles sweep.
