Golden Eagles Sweep Senators Saturday Afternoon

CHARLESTON, W. Va.– The University of Charleston Golden Eagles swept the Davis & Elkins Senators in MEC play on Saturday afternoon.

Charleston 6, Senators 3 | Charleston 8, Senators 0 
LOCATION: Charleston, W. Va.  
TEAM RECORDS: Golden Eagles (17-5, 10-2 MEC), D&E (7-9, 7-8 MEC) 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 
Game 1:  

The Senators crossed home plate in the top of the first, sending a runner home on a sacrifice Honesty Holt. Charleston answered in the bottom of the inning as Megan Eder, and Karli Pinkerton scored on a single from Alyssa Lake.  

Charleston extended their lead to 3-1 on a single from Gracie Donato that sent AJ Martin home, but the Senators made things interesting with a two RBI single that tied the game up 3-3 in the top of the third.  

Charleston capitalized on an error by the D&E catcher taking the 4-3 lead before tallying two more runs in the bottom of the fourth for the 6-3 win over the visitors.  

Game 2: 
Morgan Hoppe picked up her sixth win of the season for the Golden Eagles after Charleston came out strong in the first two innings, scoring four runs in each.  

Brionna Bowman and Hoppe led the charge for the Golden Eagles with two RBI a piece accounting for half of Charleston's runs scored.  

Hoppe faced 17 batters in 5.0 innings only allowing two hits in the contest.

The Golden Eagles will host the travel to Wheeling University on Wednesday, April 14.
