CHARLESTON, W. Va.– The University of Charleston Golden Eagles Men's soccer team moved on to Championship Sunday after defeating the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan 3-0 on Wednesday evening. After both teams played a brilliant first half on the defensive end, the Golden Eagles were able to break the pressure after Alexis Ledoux found Gabriel Rodriguez in front of the net who then headed it into the back left corner. HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats came out with a defensive plan that seemed to work in the first half to keep the Golden Eagles off the board. Energy and tempo from both teams on the defensive end allowed for just four total shots in the half (3-1 in favor of Charleston), with each goalkeeper making a save in the opening frame.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Golden Eagles wasted little time getting on the board, as just six minutes into the frame Charleston was able to score the game-winning goal as Alexis Ledoux found Gabriel Rodriguez in front of the net who then headed it into the back left corner.

Eleven minutes later, the Golden Eagles put the game away Eduardo Iranzo fed a ball into teammate Adam Burchell which brought both Burchell and Wesleyan keeper Sahil Dhunnookchand to the right post. It was Burchell who beat him to the ball which put Charleston ahead 2-0.

In the 81st minute, Alejandro Larrayoz found the back of the net on an assist from Sam Bethell which put Charleston ahead 3-0.

Charleston goalkeeper Marc Torrado made three saves in net, while the Golden Eagles held the advantage in corner opportunities (10-2). Charleston found plenty of opportunities in the second half, outshooting the opposition 11-2 after just three shots in the opening frame.
