CHARLESTON, W. Va. — The University of Charleston Golden Eagles celebrated their 2021 senior class and picked up a split with the visiting Fairmont State Falcons on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the contest, the softball program honored Karli Pinkerton, AJ Martin, Megan Eder, Janey Schmidt, Alex Thomas, Jenna Shepherd, and Kerri VanMeter for their dedication to the Golden Eagles during their time at UC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1:
The Golden Eagles struck first, scoring on a passed ball by the Falcon's catcher in the bottom of the first inning.
Neither team put a run on the board again until the bottom of the fifth as Mackenzie Brown scored on a sacrifice from senior third baseman Karli Pinkerton. With AJ Martin on third base, Megan Eder hit a single to right field, giving Martin the go head for the 3-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the Falcons scored after Meadow Anderson was walked with the bases loaded. In the top of the seventh the Falcons tied the game up 3-3 forcing extra innings as Charleston was unable to score in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the eighth the Falcons scored their game winning run on an error giving them the 4-3 win.
Game 2:
The Falcons came out hot on a three-run homer from Andie Baughman in the top of the first, but the Golden Eagles closed the gap in the bottom of the third scoring three runs for the 3-3 tie.
Charleston had two runs cross the plate on an error, followed by another runner scoring on a walk with the bases loaded.
In the bottom of the fifth Charleston took the 4-3 lead on a single from Brionna Bowman, and then sealed their victory on a two RBI single from Karli Pinkerton.
UP NEXT
Charleston will host the Frostburg State Bobcats on Sunday in their final home series. The doubleheader is set to begin a 1:00 p.m.
