MARS HILL, N.C. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles started off their 2021 campaign with a 5-1 victory over the Mars Hill Lions. The Golden Eagles were led by senior midfielder, Sebasitan Pavez with four goals in the contest.
After a scoreless first half, the No.1 Golden Eagles (1-0-0, 0-0-0 MEC) found the net in the 55
th minute as Pavez tabbed his second goal in his UC career and the first for the Golden Eagles 2021 season. Alexi Ledoux received a cross from James Raptis, and played it right to Pavez's feet for the finish. Less than a minute later Ploutarchos Alonefti fed a ball to Joakim Ostvold who finished giving UC the 2-0 advantage.
Pavez found the goal for Charleston a second time in the 62
nd minutes, as Luis Maestre notched his first assist of his career for the Golden Eagles.
Mars Hill (0-1-0, 0-0-0 SAC) countered back at the 71:33 mark on a goal from Kevonte Willoughby-Williams to bring the score to 3-1.
Charleston gained their 5-1 advantage as again, Sebastian Paves put a pair of goals past the Mars Hill keeper in the final six minutes of action. Said Garcia and Raptis each notching an assist on the final two goals.
Charleston out-shot their opponents 17-8, and held a 10-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Nicolai Gundersen tallied his first full game in goal for Charleston, tallying three saves in the victory.
