CHARLESTON, W. Va. — The University of Charleston Golden Eagles fell to the West Virginia Yellow Jackets 1-0 in Wednesday night MEC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams battled early on as WVSU held a 3-2 shot advantage, however it was the Golden Eagles who had the 2-1 lead in shots on goal. With 22 minutes to play in the half Roberta Pomi hit Cassandra Demps along the sideline who narrowly hit Sydney Wheeler who was crashing the near post.
The two teams exchanged shots but UC quickly put on the pressure with the 6-2 advantage in shots-on-goal with 9:43 to play. With 4:23 to go in the half Naomi Waithira sent a laser to the top corner of the goal off a free-kick 30 yards from the net, taking the 1-0 lead over the Golden Eagles.
Heading into the second half the Yellow Jackets closed the gap firing off four more shots on goal, still leading the Golden Eagles 1-0.
Both sides battled through the second half, with just over 11 minutes to play WVSU maintained their 1-0 lead. With eight minutes to play, Katy O'Reilly gave the Golden Eagles a chance ripping a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that was called back for the offsides violation.
The Golden Eagles fell to their cross-town rivals 1-0 at the Welch Athletic Complex.
