How it Happened

Frostburg State's opening baskets were matched point for point by Charleston in the opening two minutes until Keith Williams was able to give the Golden Eagles the lead for the first time with a driving layup with 17:28 left in the half. The Bobcats were able to land a couple of jumpers to retake the lead until Lamont McManus completed an "and-one" play and tied the ballgame up 17-17 with 11:15 remaining. Later, McManus, again, was able to convert the and-one play putting Charleston up 26-23 in the back-and-forth battle. A little Harlem Globetrotter action entered the building as Keith Williams was able to connect to Shunta Wilson on a fancy breakaway alley-oop pass. Isaiah Gable, as usual, was able to land a three pointer to extend the lead 32-26 with 4:34 remaining in the half. The Bobcats never went away and matched almost every point that the Golden Eagles were able to put up which ultimately kept them alive in the half. The game was almost tied up at the buzzer after a full court shot from the Bobcats that lipped out, but Charleston went into the half on top 45-42.

The Bobcats came out hot defensively and quickly took the lead back 45-47. Just as quickly as they gained the lead, Charleston took it right back and continued to add on after a one-handed slam from Shunta Wilson. After going up 58-50, Frostburg State took a timeout to slow the momentum down that was brewing for the home team. Frostburg's timeout proved to be effective as they were able to narrow the deficit to 64-62 with 9:39 remaining in the ballgame. Kobey Lam managed to knock down a shot beyond the arc and keep the lead intact, immediately followed by his layup to put Charleston up 69-64. The Golden Eagles found themselves with 10 fouls with five minutes remaining in the game, but it did not stop the squad from playing physical and going for steals. The later possessions became more crucial as the Bobcats were not backing down. With a six-point differential between the two squads and a minute left, Charleston was looking to hold onto the ball. Jeremiah Keene went to the line after a blocking foul and sank both of his shots making it 84-76 with 43.6 seconds remaining. Shunta Wilson came up with the dagger, not on offense, but on defense after a monster block on the Bobcats to prevent any sort of run they might have been able to formulate. Charleston was able to secure the victory 88-79.

Up Next: After the win, the Charleston Golden Eagles travel to Fairmont, WV to take on the Fairmont State Falcons Saturday on January 29th at 7:30 p.m.
