Women's Soccer Takes 6-1 Victory Over the Battlers

Charleston, W. Va – The Golden Eagles took the field Wednesday evening to face the Alderson Broaddus Battlers for an MEC women's soccer matchup. Charleston put 20 of their 30 shots on target, resulting in quite a number of goals on the day.

The Basics
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 6, ABU 1
Records: UC (7-6-0, 7-4-0 MEC), ABU (0-9-3, 0-9-2 MEC)

How it Happened
The scoring started in the 2nd minute of the match as Mallory Beach sent a missile over the Battler keeper with her left foot from 20 yards out. This would be Beach's first career goal for the Golden Eagles, but one goal wasn't enough for the Ohio native. In the 20th minute of play, Beach used her right foot this time for another long-distance shot that found the Battler net to put Charleston up 2-0.

The third goal of the match came in the 37th minute of play. Anna Gregor lined up for a corner kick and played a curling lob into the box that found Kate Eddy's forehead, putting the Golden Eagles up 3-0 as they strutted into the locker room.

In the second half, Alderson Broaddus would score on a Diana Forero penalty kick in the 65th minute, but Charleston would answer back right away. The awareness and execution on the pass from Kaitlyn Gauze was textbook, and Katy O'Reilly took the liberty of finishing the play as she sent a close-range shot into the upper left net to put Charleston up 4-1.

The last two goals of the match would come from Sydney Cavender in the final eight minutes of the match. The first would come from a close-range shot on the assist from Rachel Osborne and her second coming off the assist from Katy O'Reilly. This would be the final score of the match as the Golden Eagles found themselves with the 6-1 win.
