How it Happened
Charleston played phenomenal on defense in this matchup. In the first half, they allowed zero shots towards keeper Jordan Maynard, allowing their offense to put up shots on Wesleyan's net. Rachel Osborne shot three towards the net in the first half with one on net and Mallory Beach also put two of her shots on net. Neither team was able to strike first in the first 45 minutes of play and the two teams would go into the break knotted at 0-0.
The Golden Eagles were able to take the lead on a Madison Hansen penalty kick in the 63
rd minute. Just as she always does, she lined up facing away from the keeper, approached the ball and sent a missile underneath the crossbar to take the 1-0 lead.
In a desperation attempt for Wesleyan, Chloe Ramirez sent a free kick shot from over 30 yards towards Jordan Maynard who had no problem catching the shot before it had a chance to go in the net. Charleston would hang on to their one-goal lead and take the victory with a final score of 1-0.
