How it Happened:
Charleston entered Wednesday night's match looking to continue their hot streak and pick up their tenth win of the 2022 season.
The Golden Eagles, once again, dominated possession of the ball for majority of the match, not giving the Cardinals the opportunity to take a shot until the fortieth minute of the match. Charleston on the other hand, riffled off 9 shots in the first half, three of which found the back of the net.
The first goal came off the foot of defender
Javier Sanchez in the nineteenth minute. Sanchez's first goal of the season was assisted by
Eduardo Barros.
The second goal for the Golden Eagles came eight minutes later after being awarded a free kick. A foul just outside of the eighteen-yard box set up
Eduardo Iranzo to send the ball off the crossbar and give Charleston the 2-0 lead.
As the half wound down, Charleston's
Lewis Redding tacked down the third goal for the Golden Eagles in the forty-second minute, sending Charleston to the locker room with the 3-0 lead.
The goal scoring for Charleston would not end there as just six minutes into the second half, the Golden Eagles scored their fourth goal of the night. Charleston, on the counterattack, quickly got the ball down the field to
Mattia Vezzoni who then sent a nice pass to
Giorgos Diakos. From there Diakos took on the Wheeling goalie one on one and sent a shot off his right foot past the diving Austin Aaron and into the back of the net.
In the sixty-fifth minute of the match,
Eduardo Barros picked up his seventh goal of the season and Charleston's fifth goal of the evening. This goal was assisted by
Mattheo Ledoux and
Giorgos Diakos.
Three minutes later, a Charleston defensive miscue would give the Cardinals their one and only goal of the night, the score now 5-1 Charleston.
Charleston did not let the lone Wheeling goal affect them as the Golden Eagles would score their sixth goal of the night in the eight minutes later. A Wheeling free kick that found the feet of
Luis Maestre was passed to
Eduardo Barros who found
Joao Gallo Lima up the pitch. From their it was all down to Gallo Lima who sent the Golden Eagles final goal of the night past the Cardinal goalie.
The match ended with a score of 6-1 in favor of Charleston, giving the Golden Eagles their tenth win of the season. Charleston had six goals from six different goal scores in the victory over the Cardinals.
