Golden Eagles Advance to Elite Eight After Defeating Post 2-0

Rindge, N.H. – Golden Eagles continue to roll with 2-0 win over Post University to advance to the Elite Eight.

The Basics:
Location: Sodexo Field
Score: UC  2, PU 0
Records: UC 20-1 (16-1 MEC), Post 16-4-2

How it Happened:
On a cold afternoon in New Hampshire, the Golden Eagles were looking for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight. Charleston started the game just like majority of the season dominating possession of the ball. The Golden Eagles had a few chances at goal with four shots and several corners, but the Post Eagles managed to keep Charleston off the board.

Charleston took the lead in the 42nd minute when freshman Joao Belmudes made a run on the left wing to get on the other end of a pass into the penalty area. From there, he snuck a centering pass to the top of the six-yard box for junior Lewis Redding, who one-touched it into the back of the net.

Charleston headed into the half with the 1-0 lead as the snow began to lightly cover the pitch. The Golden Eagles did not let the weather affect them as they continued to maintain possession and keep the ball in their attacking third.

In the 73rd minute the Golden Eagles were able to tack on an insurance goal and increase the lead to 2-0. The goal came after a failed clearance found the right foot of Sam Bethell who served up a pass in front of the penalty spot to Connor Hartwell who volleyed it into the back left corner for his first goal of the season.

Charleston continued to press and kept the Eagles off the board for the remainder of the match. Marc Torrado collected another shutout while Lewis Redding tacked on his fifth goal of the season.

Up Next:
Charleston will play Franklin Pierce on Saturday at 6PM in the Elite Eight with a trip to the Final Four in Seattle on the line.
