How It Happened

The second set saw the Yellow Jackets get the quick 2-0 lead, however, a service ace by Maria Hernandez tied the set back up at 2-2. Late in the set, Charleston would expand their lead to 18-15 on a kill from McKenzie Damon. A Sage Bearnson kill would then once again extend the lead to 22-19. A kill from Selke would finish off the Yellow Jackets in set two and the Golden Eagles won the set 25-23.

In set three, the Yellow Jackets once again jumped out to the early lead, winning the first four points before a Bearnson kill ended the run. The Golden Eagles would then go on a run of their own to tie the score at four on a blocking error by the Yellow Jackets. Back-to-back-to-back Selke service aces resulted in the Golden Eagles taking an 8-5 lead. UC would continue to dominate the set. A Selke kill would give the Golden Eagles a 15-9 lead making West Virginia State burn their second timeout of the set. Charleston would take the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
