Competitive Second Half Was Not Enough as Fairmont State Downs Charleston

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Golden Eagles' men basketball team traveled to Fairmont, West Virginia to take on the Falcons of Fairmont State University. UC fell to the nationally ranked team and move to 3-4 on the season, 2-1 in the conference. The Falcons remain undefeated with a 5-0 record and 3-0 MEC record. 
 
The Basics

How It Happened 
The Golden Eagles would have a competitive first half running out to a 10-2 lead, but Fairmont would finish the half going on a 10-2 run to create a five-point cushion to end the half. In what was a competitive second half, a Keaton Turner layup with 5:38 remaining in the game would give the Golden Eagles their final lead of the night at 59-58. The twelfth ranked Falcons would then respond with a 16-0 run to take a 74-59 lead and proceed to close out the game from there with the final score being 74-61.
 
Fairmont State's bench totaled 35 points, compared to Charleston's 28 points. The Golden Eagles forced Fairmont into committing 22 turnovers but allowed Fairmont to shoot 41% from three while also being out rebounded by a total of ten with the final tally being 43-33 in favor of the falcons. 
 
CJ Meredith led the way for UC with 14 points. Meredith had six rebounds and went 3-4 on the foul line. Keaton Turner and Jeremiah Keene both totaled 11 points. Turner had four rebounds, one assist, and two turnovers. Keene tallied six rebounds with five assists.
