HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston dropped another match to conference opponent on Saturday afternoon in Charleston after taking the match against visiting Sacred Heart to five sets.
The Golden Eagles were looking to pick up right where they left off on Friday night after they took set one by a score of 25-21, finishing with four straight points with a kill by Lachlan Bray, back-to-back service aces from Arthur Sueur and an attack error to finish by the Big Red.
They narrowly dropped the second by a score of 25-23. Late in the set UC was able to tie it up at 21 but two points by the Big Red saw Charleston down 23-21. Points were traded for the rest of the set with the final point coming from a service error by Garret Schnitker.
The third set went a bit long with as Charleston was able to knot the score at 25 before giving up back-to-back points to drop the third.
Set four was less of a battle as the Golden Eagles took care of business 25-19. Charleston had a solid effort in the fourth as they never gave up momentum. After the Big Red tallied the first three points, UC would only allow Sacred Heart to garner back-to-back points once throughout the rest of the set.
Set five would be all Big Red as Sacred Heart took a commanding 10-6 lead after three straight points due to errors on the UC end. The three point deficit would prove too much to overcome as Sacred Heart took the match 15-10 on a service error by Lachlan Bray.
Charleston outhit the Big Red by a total of .252 to .214 but errors by the Golden Eagles proved to be the deciding factor in the contest. UC had a game high 11 errors in set three en route to their loss. Diego Villafane made his best effort to assist in the Golden Eagle victory by adding 48 assists in the five sets played as UC led in almost every statistical category including points, kills, aces, assists, and digs, but were unable to walk away with a win.
