How it Happened

Charleston cemented themselves at second place in the Mountain East Conference Standings as the season winds down. They currently hold the same overall and conference record as rival West Virginia State. The two teams will play on Saturday February 26 in Institute. The game will have a big impact on MEC Tournament seeding as the winner will likely secure the second seed while the loser may fall to fourth behind Fairmont State.

The Golden Eagles used a big first half to take the win from Alderson Broaddus on Saturday. They doubled the score of host Alderson Broaddus by scoring 48 first half points to the Battlers' 24. They were outscored by 11 points in the second half but the large first half lead would be too much for Alderson Broaddus to overcome in the end.

Senior Keith Williams led the way in the contest tallying 18 point and five assists while shooting 33% from the field with six points from beyond the arc.

Eddie Colbert III added 16 points and four assists to go along with two defensive rebounds.

Lamont McManus and Jeremiah Keene tallied 14 points a piece while scoring from different parts of the court. Big man McManus made 7 of his 10 shots down low while Jeremiah Keene was 6-9 from the field with 2 threes to boot.

Riley Heatherington added 15 points of his own off the bench while shooting a 87.5% from the field. Heatherington also added 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in the game.
