MVB: Princeton Tops Charleston as Golden Eagles Go to 4-4 on the Season

Charleston, W. Va – The University of Charleston Men's Volleyball team traveled to Princeton, New Jersey to take on the EIVA opponent, Princeton. The Golden Eagles battled but came up short in both matches against the Tigers dropping the first match 3 -1 and the second match 3 – 0.  

The Basics Match 1  

Location: Venerable Dillon Gymnasium (Princeton, NJ)  

Score: PU – 3 UC – 1  

Records: Charleston (4-3, 1-2 EIVA), Princeton (3-8, 2-3 EIVA)  

The first set began with some key kills from Lachlan Bray and Will Kimenhour before Princeton break away from UC. Princeton closed the set with two service aces from freshman Nyherowo Omene, who led the Tigers with four on the match.  

The second set saw the Golden Eagles drop another set to the Tigers. The Tigers posted their best hitting percentage of 0.391, but were unable to capitalize in some key moments.  After winning 6 points in a row, the Tigers cruised to a second set score of 25 – 16.  

The third set was taken by the Golden Eagle with a score of 25 – 23. Ismael Sneed, who led UC in kills with eight, boosted Charleston to victory with three kills during the set.   

The fourth and final set saw the Golden Eagles fall, 25 – 19.C Charleston battled till the end, but Princeton's early run in the set helped the Tigers seal the match by a score of 3 matches to 1.  

The Basics Match 2  

Location: Venerable Dillon Gymnasium  

Score: PU – 3 UC – 0  

Records: Charleston (4-4, 1-3 EIVA), Princeton (4-8, 3-3 EIVA)  

The Golden Eagles came into their second matchup versus the Princeton Tigers this past Saturday looking to bounce back after a 3 -1 loss on Friday.  

The Tigers took the first set by a score of 25-22. In every set, Princeton had 15 kills while the Eagles had 13 in the first set.  

The second saw the Golden Eagles drop another set to the Tigers as they produced their best hitting this set with a percentage of .522. Charleston's Diego Villafane provided some key assists in this set, as he led UC with 29. Princeton won the second set by a score of 25 -17.  

The third and final set saw the Tigers finish off the Golden Eagles by a score of 25 – 20. This was a better hitting set for the Golden Eagles as they finished the set with a hitting percentage of .393. Princeton's Nate Thompson led the Tigers in the final set and finished off the Golden Eagles.
