Game 1

Charleston struck the first blow of the contest in the first inning when Braxton Boddorf laced a doubled down the right field line to bring in freshman Kyle West. Jordan Bailey led off the third inning with a bunt single was brought home after a double by Tyler Dellerman down the left field line. A single later in the inning by Eric Chartier brought home Dellerman to bring the score to 3-0. A RBI groundout by Drew Klaserner and a Giano Zuccaro single gave Charleston a 5-0 lead by the end of the top of the third.

Alderson Broaddus responded quickly, plating 2 runs on three hits and an error by third baseman Bryce Toussaint. Pete Costigan led off the top of the fourth inning with a walk and was soon brought home by a Dellerman 2-run blast to left field. The top of the fifth saw the wheels start to fall off for the Battlers. Charleston would score 7 runs in the inning, all of which were unearned. Two errors and some walks by Alderson Broaddus made the score 14-2. Kyle West recorded his first home run of his college career after punishing a ball over the right field wall to bring in two runs.

Starting pitcher Colt Webb would record one out in the bottom of the fifth as he was replaced by Austin Dzierwa. Webb ended his day notching his fourth win of the year to bring his record to 4-2. He recorded 4.1 IP, allowed eight hits, four earned runs, walked just one Battler, while fanning four. Alderson Broaddus brought home three runs in the inning. Sophomore Robby Shepherd came in to relieve Dzierwa and ended the frame with a strikeout. At the end of 5, it was 14-5 in favor of the Golden Eagles.

After going quietly in the top of the sixth, Charleston again exploded for six more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Braxton Boddorf picked up his fourth hit of the day with a double to right field that scored Kyle West. He was later brought home, along with Griffin Adkins, on a single to right field by Clay Hale.

Freshman Jake Reisenweber, who came in at second for Jordan Bailey, cranked a three-run blast into the woods of left field for his first home run of his college career. It would bring in three more Golden Eagles and would cap the scoring for UC in game one.

Shepherd would slam the door on game one, working a scoreless bottom of the sixth and giving up just one run in the seventh. The Golden Eagles took game one with a final score of 20-6.

Game 2

Ontario native Owen MacNeil would get the nod on the bump for the Golden Eagles in game two and he did not disappoint. MacNeil had a bit of a shaky start to his outing giving up one run on two hits including a leadoff double. However, he would settle down in the next few innings and proceed to work four scoreless frames while walking just one ABU batter and striking out four others. He ended his night in the fifth after going 5.0 innings strong while allowing just three hits, one earned run, and fanning six.

The Golden Eagles were patient in the second inning, earning three straight walks by Eric Chartier, Clay Hale, and Giano Zuccaro. Pete Costigan ripped a single into right field to bring home Chartier. Another single by Andre Martinez plated Hale to bring the score to 2-1 in favor of Charleston. With the bases juiced, Dellerman ripped a double into left field and plated two more Golden Eagles. Charleston held a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Braxton Boddorf's bat stayed hot in the third inning as he laced a double into left field and later came around to score on a Zuccaro sacrifice fly. After going quietly in the fourth, Boddorf again started a rally with a one out single into center field. He was later brought in by a single from Chartier to make the score 6-1. Costigan led off the sixth with a single and was later joined by Jordan Bailey who was hit by a pitch. Boddorf then legged out an infield single to bring home Costigan.

In the top of the sixth Jackson Mandella came in relief for MacNeil and proceeded to work himself into second and third situation with no one out. He proceeded to strike out the next two batters, walk one to load the bases, and strike out the third batter to end the threat.

Charleston added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning on just one hit. With a 10-1 lead firmly in hand, Jackson Mandella dropped the hammer on the game by fanning three straight Battler hitters. He ended his night with an impressive 2.0 IP, striking out six, while allowing just three baserunners and no earned runs.
