Women's Lacrosse Falls to 1-2 in Conference Play After 24-11 Defeat at Frostburg State

Frostburg, Md.- Women's Lacrosse dropped their second straight game in Mountain East Conference play after taking a loss at the hends of Frostburg State. They would go down 7-2 in the first quarter and were never able to overcome the early deficit.

Records: UC 3-5, Frostburg 2-6

How it Happened:


The Frostburg Bobcats went up quickly on the Golden Eagles. Sophomore, Gianni Blundell, and Junior, Destiny Jackson, both put goals up for the Eagles late in the 1st quarter.  Junior goalkeeper, Georgia Ryan, made 6 saves for the Eagles in 1st.  Forty seconds into the 2nd, Senior, Colleen Ryan, made a goal with an assist from Senior, Kayleigh Burns.   Jackson, Blundell, and Ryan put up one more goal each during the 2nd quarter; while the Eagle's leading scorer, Freshman, Sophia Conzone, was able to grab her first goal of the game. The Eagles trailed 13-7 going into halftime.
 
The 3rd quarter started with two quick goals by the Falcons. Charleston continued to outshoot the Falcons in the third.  Conzone scored one more for the Eagles; while Burns assisted three goals by Ryan, Blundell, and Jackson.  The Falcon's defense pressed hard against the Eagles in the 4th quarter, holding them to only 4 shots and no goals. 
 
Goalies, Ryan and Jasmine James, finished the match with 8 and 2 saves, respectively.  Blundell along with Meghan Smith, lead the midfield for the Eagles. Blundell had 6 draw controls, 3 ground balls, and 1 controlled turnover; while, Smith won 4 draw controls, 2 ground balls, and caused one control turnover.  The Eagles continued to move the ball around on offense.  Jackson, Blundell, and Ryan had 3 goals each; while, Burns had 4 assists.  The Eagles showed improvement in ball control by limiting turnovers to 6 (second lowest in school history).

The Golden Eagles return home to host West Virginia Wesleyan College on Wednesday, April 13 at 5:00pm.
