How it Happened

Game One
Dani Bauer was in control throughout the contest and only surrendered a late-inning solo homer while Hannah Rose accounted for three of the squad's runs. The Golden Eagles (22-16) dropped Notre Dame (15-21) by a score of 5-1.

Hannah Rose started things off in the first inning for UC as she ripped a double deep to left field. She scored after two consecutive ground ball outs to the infield.

The offense for both teams stayed relatively quiet until Charleston came to bat in the fourth. Allysa Lake drove a ball hard to right center for a lead off double, and as was the case in the first inning, two consecutive ground ball outs scored Lake to make the score 2-0.

Dani Bauer maneuvered effectively through the Falcons offense. The only bump in the road came in the bottom of the sixth when she allowed a lead off homerun to Alexi Maciejowski. The homer cut the UC lead in half, 2-1.

UC would rally in the seventh to add to their lead. Reagan West would lad off with a walk and Morgan Hoppe advanced her to third on a sac bunt as Lexi Rehm's throw from third sailed past first. Pinch runner Jade Espinosa came in and stole second base. Lindsay Reavis drooped down a bunt single to load up the bases. Notre Dame's starter, Allison Weilnau was then lifted for Chloe Vance who took over in the circle. She came in to face pinch hitter Olivia Pelfrey who took a Vance offering off the wrist to force in West to give UC a 3-1 lead. The Maroon and Gold would get another big hit by Hannah Rose as she doubled deep to right center to plate Espinosa and Carlie Odejewski who reentered the game for Pelfrey ballooning the lead to 5-1

Bauer (12-10) would close out the ballgame in the seventh for a complete game victory. She allowed only the one run on seven hits while striking out four.

Game Two
Charleston could not string together any hits and fell short in game two as the Falcons took the lead in the third and added insurance runs late. UC would fall 8-1 in the nightcap.

For the sixth time over the past seven games, Hannah Rose reached base in the first inning to help produce a run for UC. After a sharp single up the middle, Rose would advance to second on a Kendal Marshall sacrifice bunt and then to third on an Allysa Lake groundout to shortstop. Rose would take of the rest herself as she scampered home on a passed ball that did not get very far away from the catcher. Her quick read and speed allowed her to slide in safely.

Unfortunately for UC, Rose's first inning run would be all that was managed for the game. Notre Dame's Madison Olszewski (4-6) surrendered nine hits but multiple baserunning errors would eliminate any UC threat on offense.

Morgan Hoppe (9-6) suffered the loss for Charleston as she pitched 4.2 innings while allowing five runs, three earned, in the contest. She struck out three batters.

Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will make the short road trip across town to face West Virginia State in a mid-week doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 20.
