How it Happened

Game One
Traveling across town for the short road trip, UC (23-16) picked up 13 runs on 14 hits with three homers, and Dani Bauer surrendered only four hits. Charleston shellacked the Yellow Jackets (17-18) by a score of 13-1 in a game shortened to five innings due to the 8-run rule.

The ball game started with a common theme for UC as Hannah Rose doubled to left center. Kendal Marshall immediately drove her in with an RBI single to give UC an early lead.

In the second, Charleston broke open the ball game. Brionna Bowman had a bunt single sandwiched in between walks by Lindsay Reavis and Carlie Odejewski. The table was set for hot-hitting Rose, who ripped a two-run single through the right side, bumping the UC lead to 3-0. Allyssa Lake then drove a pitch to deep right field to score Odejewski. Two batters later, Gracie Donato lined a 2-run homer to left center to close out the scoring for the inning and giving Charleston a 6-0 advantage.

Five more runs would cross the plate for the Golden Eagles in the fourth inning. Rose ignited the offense once again with a bunt single. The speedy runner would then advance to third on a routine ground out to 3B, and Lake would score her on an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Pinch runner Jade Espinosa entered the game and stole second base. Donato would follow with a single down the left field line to drive in Espinosa. Reagan West then singled, advancing pinch runner Kaitlyn Griffith to second base to set up Emma Groe. She would take a pitch and drive it over the centerfield fence just to the right of the 220' sign for a three-run homer, giving the Golden Eagles a comfortable 11-0 lead.

UC's starting pitcher Dani Bauer (13-10) was in control throughout the game as she struck out six in five innings. She allowed the one run in the fourth inning on three hits that seemed to fall in the right places, including an RBI single that travelled about 20' from home plate. She was able to escape the inning by striking out the next two WVSU hitters, with the third out being recorded as a runner tried to advance home but was tagged out by Lake.

The Golden Eagles continued the offense onslaught in the fifth. Hannah Rose was starting things off once again, but this time, she hit a liner that left the field in a hurry. The ball never got more than 15 feet off the ground and cleared the fence just inside the right field foul pole. With one out, Lake just missed a homer of her own, but instead had to settle for a hard double to left center. After advancing on a passed ball, Donato picked up her fourth RBI with a groundout to short producing the 13-1 final score.

Game Two
Morgan Hoppe (10-6) was dealing in the circle in the nightcap, and the scorching hot Hannah Rose produced both UC runs to seal the 2-0 victory.

As was the case in game one, Hannah Rose started the game with a drive to deep center for a ground rule double. Rose's legs got her to third by way of a stolen base. Allysa Lake then drove an Autumn Thompson pitch up the middle to score Rose, giving UC another early 1-0 lead.

The Yellow Jackets only threatened one time, and it was in the bottom of the first inning. After a one-out walk, Kasey Murphy doubled to left to put runners on second and third. Emily Moore was then fooled by a Hoppe offering that induced a soft grounder to Hannah Rose at short. She charged the grounder and fired a strike to Allysa Lake at the plate to cut down the runner. Hoppe would only allow one other hit in the game.

In the fifth inning, Hannah Rose provided the fireworks for the Golden Eagles. Starting off the inning, she pulverized a Thompson offering over the right centerfield fence to give UC a 2-0 lead.

Hoppe finished the complete game victory for her third shutout of the season. It was the second time she shut out State.
