How it Happened
Previous matchups have always been entertaining to watch between these two squads, and this one did not disappoint either.
In a scoreless first half, it was instantly clear that both sides wanted this win, especially knowing who their opponent was. A one-on-one matchup that carried throughout the afternoon was Charleston's Kate Eddy against Concord's Jayme Millard, a very fast striker that caused a lot of problems for the Golden Eagles in their own territory. Millard's attacks, however, were consistently shut down by the Golden Eagles when she got near the net.
After eight minutes in the second half, Concord had found the back of the net. Leah Foster found a wide-open lane towards the goal on the far side of the field and gently played it over to Leah Fleming for the easy tap in right in front of the net to go up 0-1.
The Golden Eagles had several chances towards the end of the match to level the score, but were only able to manage one shot on goal for the rest of the day. Concord would take this one by a very slim 1-0 margin.
Charleston forced nine offsides calls against Concord, which is something that they have done well defensively this season. This tactic implemented by Todd Diuguid has proven to be very effective and will more than likely continue to be utilized.
Concord also had a standout keeper in Leah Marsh who looked very cool, calm, and collected on Sunday. Marsh contributed her clean sheet to the victory accompanied by five saves throughout the match.
