How it Happened:
Charleston entered Wednesday night's match with a 4-1 Mountain East Conference record while the Bobcats of Frostburg State carried a 1-3-2 record in the conference. Like many of the matches this season, Charleston maintained possession for majority of the game. The Golden Eagles riffled off several shots in the first ten minutes, but it was the Bobcats that struck first in the thirteenth minute.
Â
Charleston would not let the deficit affect them as they continued to attack the Bobcat defense. In the twentieth minute, the Golden Eagles capitalized on a set piece and tied the game at one all. The corner kick from
Felipe Mercado was perfectly fed into the box for
Francisco Anton to head it into the back of the net.
Â
The game remained at 1-1 as both teams entered the locker room at the completion of the half.
Â
Charleston entered the second half eager to take the lead and would take several shots at the goal in an effort to do so. About twenty minutes into the second half, Charleston found themselves on the counterattack and a beautiful pass from
Paul Caliari set up
Eduardo Barros.
Barros smashed the ball into the back of the net and gave the Golden Eagles the 2-1 lead.
Â
While Charleston now had the lead, the win was not yet solidified. The Golden Eagles had several miscues, giving the Bobcat offense the ball and keeping Frostburg's chances alive. The Golden Eagles managed to keep the lead and with only thirty seconds left in the match, Charleston was awarded a penalty after a Bobcat foul in the box.
Joao Belmudes would seal the deal for Charleston as he sent the Golden Eagles final goal of the night into the back of the net.
