Two Second Half Goals Lead Men's Soccer to Seventh Win of the Season

Wheeling, W.Va.- Two second half goals for the Golden Eagles would be enough to defeat the home Cardinals on Saturday evening.

The Basics:
Location: Bishop Schmitt Stadium
Score: UC 2, Wheeling 0
Records: UC 7-1 (6-1 MEC), Wheeling 3-5-1 (3-3-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
Both teams entered Saturday night's match looking to pick up a Mountain East Conference win. The Golden Eagles and the Cardinals were eager to strike first, making the first forty-five minutes of the match a battle for possession. The Cardinals and the Golden Eagles both attempted three shots in the first half, but neither team could manage to find the back of the net, heading into the locker room at the half scoreless.

Charleston's Santiago Hoyosgave the Golden Eagles the 1-0 advantage in the fifty-third minute assisted by Felipe Mercado. Now with the lead, Charleston maintained possession for majority of the second half.

The game looked like it was going to end at 1-0 Charleston, but a late goal by Mattheo Ledoux in the eighty-seventh minute would seal the deal for the Golden Eagle victory.

Mattheo Ledoux picked up his first goal of the season while Santiago Hoyos tallied up his second. Felipe Mercado assisted his fourth goal of the season and Eduardo Iranzo picked up his third assist.
