How it Happened
After a chippy opening to the first half with two Concord yellow cards, Charleston proceeded to take shot after shot on Mountain Lions goalkeeper Tommy Smith. In the first 45 minutes of the match, Charleston had 14 shots with six of them on target.
The first goal of the match came in the 39th minute. Giorgos Diakos was able to control a pinball within the box and took an unexpected shot towards the net. Tommy Smith, not expecting the shot, was unable to get to the ball in time before it rolled into the net and the Golden Eagles took a 1-0 advantage just before the two squads were sent into the locker room.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles would find their second goal of the match. After a Concord foul was called from just over 20 yards out from the net, Charleston would call for Eduardo Iranzo to take the free kick. Iranzo made it quite clear why he was the man for the job as he sent a bending missile into the near-post corner and extended the lead to 2-0.
The third goal of the match would come from the man who started off the goal fest for Charleston. Giorgos Diakos would score his second of the match in the 74th minute. Similar to his first goal, the placement was very unexpected as he played his shot into the tight near-post pocket, but snuck it past Smith to deliver the devastating blow.
Charleston would manage three more shots the rest of the match, but would be very content with their 3-0 victory over the Mountain Lions.
