How it Happened
The Golden Eagles, coming off two losses, were looking to hit the ground running in conference play, and they did just that. Although the game started with a D&E goal from Seika Ikezoe in the eighth minute, that did not take the wind out of the sails for Charleston.

Cassidy Collins, the young sophomore from Reynoldsburg, OH, found the D&E keeper off her line in the 32ndminute and took the opportunity to send a rocket from 35 yards away to level the match 1-1.

Less than a minute later, Sydney Wheeler, feeling left out, decided that she wanted to add a goal to the scoreboard as well. Using her blazing speed and dropping defenders, she quickly got to the far side of the 18-yard box and placed the ball in the left corner of the net to take a favorable 2-1 lead.

Then four minutes went by; this time, Sydney Cavender was feeling left out of the goal fest, and Brooke Lucas wanted to help her out. Playing a ball all the way from the defending third, Lucas blasted a well-placed pass flipping the field and Cavender utilized her speed to get to the ball right in front of the keeper which gave her just the right amount of time to find an open space on the far-side post and put the Golden Eagles up 3-1.

After the halftime break, Madison Hansen gave us a clear indicator that the weight room was her second home this summer as she ripped a ball from her own 18-yard box right to the feet of Rachel Osborne who took one touch and finessed the ball over the D&E keeper to spread the large margin to a 4-1 lead.

When the final whistle blew, Charleston maintained the lead and found their first win of the year with a score of 4-2.
