How it Happened:
The opening stages of the first half would entail a tug-of-war match on the scoreboard as there would be six total lead changes between the two sides. Tyler Eberhart's dunk with 11:55 to go in the half would tie the ballgame up at 18-18. This was then followed by two consecutive Shunta Wilson layups from underneath the basket that pushed the Golden Eagles ahead 22-18. This gave Charleston a slight advantage for majority of the half as they were able to maintain the margin eight minutes until the Big Blue would go ahead with a close-range jumper from Jordan Hinds to make the score 31-32. Keaton Turner would retake the lead with a shot from beyond the arc and a quick layup to go up 38-35. Eddie Colbert III would end the first half scoring with a layup in the paint to take a 40-38 Charleston lead into the locker room.
The Golden Eagles would start the second half with a sense of urgency and increase the margin drastically with a 12-3 run just under four minutes into the half. This would be the margin that Charleston needed to hold their lead for the remainder of the game. The squad would go on to shoot 55% (17-31) from the field and 40% (6-15) from three-point land. The scoring was incredibly balanced from the Charleston lineup as six different Golden Eagles would end up in double digits, with Keith Williams leading the charge with 15. Colbert would almost come away with a double-double on the night as he was just two rebounds shy of the ten needed, but still put on a show as he also tallied two steals and an assist. Charleston would take this one by a comfortable margin of 90-81 over Bluefield State.
