Charleston Wins Big At Home Over Notre Dame

Charleston, W. Va – After having their eight-game winning streak snapped just a short number of days ago, the Golden Eagles would take on the Notre Dame Falcons at home. The Falcons were on a two-game losing streak, losing both games by a combined score of 125-163.

How it Happened
Notre Dame would take the first points of the game with an Alana Ellis three-pointer, but Charleston would take the lead with Trinity Palacio's layup accompanied by a Dakota Reeves triple from deep range. The Golden Eagles would stretch their lead to as much as 13 points, which could be thanks to the much-improved shooting percentage in the first period from their previous matchup. They would shoot 61% (11-18) from the field on connect on half of their three-point attempts. Reeves would lead the way in the first period with eight points, connecting on two triples and a jumper. Charleston would head into the second quarter with a 26-13 lead over the Falcons.

The next ten minutes of the ballgame would push Charleston's lead to a crushing 24 points. The Golden Eagles would hold the Falcons to just six points on offense and nearly tripled that number on the other end, scoring 17 points before halftime. They would go on to shoot 40% from the field and knock home two three-pointers. A Sierra Davis free throw would end the scoring for the half as Charleston went into the locker room with a 43-19 lead.

The Golden Eagles picked up right where they left off and continued to lengthen the margin with an opening 18-7 run in just under five minutes. Brionna McClinton would join in on the scoring frenzy and knock home back-to-back shots from beyond the arc. Her second would stretch the lead to 33 points. Anna Cardwell would sink a free throw just before the horn to put Charleston ahead 68-32 over Notre Dame heading into the final quarter.

In an attempt to cut the margin down, the Falcons would put up 15 attempts from the field, but only connect on four of them. They would convert on 6-9 shots from the free throw line, contributing to their 14 points in the fourth quarter. The Golden Eagles did not shoot incredibly well from the field, but they matched every single point scored by the Falcons to maintain their lead for the remainder of the ballgame. Charleston took home the 82-46 victory over Notre Dame.
