How it Happened
Despite the Golden Eagles firing off twice as many shots as the Falcons in the first half, they would find just three shots on frame while the Falcons would put every single one of their shots on target, making keeper Jordan Maynard go to work between the posts.
The visitors would find the first goal of the match in the 11
th minute. Hannah Goes displayed her ability to score from long-range, sending a thirty-yard moon-shot over the Fairmont State goalkeeper and just underneath the crossbar to take the early 1-0 advantage.
In the 27
th minute of the first half, Alejandra Puerto would be played through the Charleston defensive front. Jordan Maynard would come off her line in an attempt to disrupt the through-ball, but would arrive a split-second late as Puerto took one touch to put the ball around Maynard and in the goal for the equalizer. With no goals scored with the time left in the first half, the two teams would head into the locker room deadlocked at 1-1.
With just two minutes played in the second half, Lina Jaime would send a curling rocket on a corner with her right foot into the box, but she was unable to find a head; however, she did place the ball into the back right corner of the goal to give Charleston a 2-1 lead.
The Falcons were also able to capitalize on a corner kick just six minutes later. Gianna Baldino would find the goal with the use of her head just in front of the net to tie the game once again.
Jaime would once again give Charleston the go-ahead goal three minutes after the Fairmont State goal. Juliette Lucas would apply pressure to the Falcon goalkeeper who lost the ball in her own box. Lucas played Jaime and the Colombia native would sink the one-timer into the lower left corner of the frame to give Charleston a 3-2 lead.
The Golden Eagles would limit the Falcons to just two shots the rest of the half and would hold on to take the 3-2 victory on the road.
