Charleston, W. Va – On Sunday, Charleston would have many firsts, with one of those firsts being a host for the Women's Mountain East Conference Championship match in addition to hosting the quarterfinal and the semifinal round. The Golden Eagles who came in seeking their first ever MEC Title, would face the Frostburg State Bobcats. In their only meeting of the year, the Golden Eagles prevailed on the road with a go-ahead penalty kick from Laura Vierhout.

How it Happened
The Golden Eagles and the Bobcats would end the first half deadlocked at 0-0, but there were many opportunities for either side to strike first in the Mountain East Conference Championship. Through very fast play, the Bobcats would fire off 11 shots in the first half, forcing five saves from junior goalkeeper Jordan Maynard defending her home turf. Charleston was able to find two shots on goal in the half, but were unable to break the tie. The teams would head into the locker room knotted up at 0-0.
In the second half, Charleston would find the first goal of the match at the 51-minute mark after Juliette Lucas would knock in the ball with her head on a beautiful pass from Lina Jaime to end the drought and take the 1-0 advantage.
Rachel Osborne would buy some insurance for the Golden Eagles after she knocked in her header overtop the Frostburg State goalkeeper and electrify the crowd with a load roar from the pitch.
The Bobcats would find a goal in the 88
th minute from Morgan Mrizek, but the Golden Eagles would hold on to secure their first ever Mountain East Conference Championship Title and lock themselves in as the 1
st ranked seed in the NCAA Atlantic Region Playoffs.
