How it Happened
It wouldn't take long for the Golden Eagles to strike gold on the road in Institute, WV. The first goal would be scored in the 9
th minute of the match as Juliette Lucas would play a rolling pass to Lina Jaime at the top of the box. Jaime sent her curling missile into the bottom right corner out of reach of the Yellow Jacket keeper and gave Charleston a quick 1-0 lead. West Virginia State would fire off two shots on goal in the half, but would be denied by Jordan Maynard in the first 45 minutes of action. Charleston would take the 1-0 lead into the locker room, putting the visitors in the driver's seat.
Charleston would hold off the attack of West Virginia State for 30 minutes in the second half, until Esther Dhiramo sent a shot out of Maynard's reach into the top left corner to knot things up at 1-1 in front of a large West Virginia State crowd.
The Golden Eagles found a pristine opportunity just in front of the goal in the 82
nd minute of play, but a shot from short distance would sail just over the crossbar.
Neither side would find the go-ahead goal with too little time left and the Golden Eagles would have to settle for their second conference draw of the regular season.
