Score: UC 73, GSU 96
Records: UC 1-4 (0-2 MEC), GSU 4-1 (1-1 MEC)
How it Happened
It appeared as if the Pioneers were unable to miss, shooting an incredible 75% from the field and 80% from beyond the arc. With their 31 points, they would create quite the gap between themselves and the Golden Eagles as Charleston's offense would find just 15 points in the quarter. A positive takeaway from the quarter was their ability to hit their free throws as they would make 7-8 from the charity stripe. In the second quarter, Charleston would continue with consistent offense with 19 points in the quarter, but the Pioneers would nearly match every point the Golden Eagles were able to find. Glenville State would take a 49-34 lead into the locker room.
Through back and forth play in the second half, the first quarter gap proved to be the difference that Charleston was unable to overcome. The Pioneers were able to capitalize off of bad passes by the Golden Eagles, scoring 42 total points off of turnovers throughout the four quarters played. This would be the highest scoring game of the year for Charleston with an offensive performance led by Nia Vanzant with 15 points converting 6-11 of her shots inside the arc. Clarrissa Francis would finish the day with 12 points and five rebounds, with an impressive 86% shooting percentage. The Pioneers would take the contest by way of 96-73 and move to 4-1 on the year.
