Golden Eagles Win 100-64 at Home Over Alderson Broaddus

Charleston, W. Va – The Golden Eagles hosted the Alderson Broaddus Battlers on Saturday for an MEC women's basketball matchup late in the regular season. The last time these two teams met, it was the Battlers edging Charleston 60-57 in the Rex Pyles Arena. In this one, however, the Battlers would only manage to travel six players to the capital city to play against one of the top teams in the conference.

How it Happened
In an opening 12-3 run in the first quarter, Charleston found all their points in the paint underneath the basket; more specifically, Clarrissa Francis found all her points in the paint as she scored the first eight points of the game. Despite a slow start to the game, the Golden Eagles dominated play with an opening 43% shooting percentage and holding the Battlers to just seven points in the first quarter. Alderson Broaddus would score 16 points in the second period, but Charleston would continue to extend their lead with 31 points scored, shooting 58% from the field and knocking home half of their shots from beyond the arc. Haley Moore's layup with a minute remaining in the half would give Charleston a 56-21 lead heading into the locker room.

A 9-2 run in the third quarter would extend the lead even further for the Golden Eagles. Iyahnna Williams led the charge for the Battlers the entire game with 24 points. Alongside her would be Hannah Taylor who would finish the night with a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds. The team as a whole, however, would struggle holding onto the ball as they turned the ball over 26 times throughout the game. Charleston capitalized on those turnovers by scoring 36 points off of them. In the fourth period, Charleston would put on a shooting clinic from three-point land as they would hit on half of the shots they took and would also hit 40% from the field. The Battlers shot 44% inside the arc, but the deficit was too great to overcome in the end. Charleston would take the 100-64 victory over the Battlers.
