Charleston, W.Va. - Golden Eagles sweep Concord University in the first conference match-up of the season. Brianna McCown (4-2) led the Golden Eagles to victory in game one, while Danielle Bauer (2-1) picked up the win in game two.
Game 1: UC 5, CU 3
Brianna McCown came out firing today, striking out 13 Mountain Lions in seven innings pitched, while only allowing three runs on four hits. The Golden Eagles showed offensive muscle as Isabella Andujar, Allysa Lake, Morgan Hoppeand Jeritza Monteroeach picked up a double. Montero also blasted a solo shot over the center field fence giving UC a comfortable 5-3 lead against the Mountain Lions.
Montero led UC in game one by going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and one run scored.
Game 2: UC 8, CU 6
The Golden Eagles had a rocky start in game two as the Mountain Lions secured an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Eventually, they would go on to score three more runs in the top of the third giving them a 5-0 advantage over UC. However, an Isabella Andujar two-run blast would finally put the Golden Eagles on the board in the bottom of the third inning making it a 5-2 game.
CU would add one more run in the top of the fifth, but the Golden Eagles would come roaring back to tie it in the bottom half of the inning with five consecutive hits from Hannah Rose, Isabella Andujar, Lake, Montero and Raegan West. Another two-run bomb by Andujar gave UC a 8-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Despite blowing the lead, the Mountain Lions still put up a fight in their final frame of the ballgame. With two outs and one runner on first, Morgan Gleas singled to right-centerfield. Courtney Rai attempted to advance to third on the hit, but defensive replacement Rebekah Woody gunned her out at third to end the ballgame.
Danielle Bauer came in relief for Addison Mass in the top of the third inning, striking out three in 4.2 innings pitched. Rose went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, and Andujar went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs-batted-in.
