How it Happened
On a rather chilly day in the Old Line State, the Hawks of Saint Anselm made sure to step on the gas early on in the matchup, taking the first two goals of the game in the opening quarter. With 8:53 to go in the quarter, Destiny Jackson would put Charleston on the board with a rip into the goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Charleston played very physical on their own defensive third, but too much physical play from Darby Stolz would earn her a yellow card early on in the game at the 6:30 mark. Saint Anselm would then proceed on with a 6-0 run to end the quarter with the 8-1 lead over the Golden Eagles.
Lily Christensen would be given a yellow card just thirty seconds into the second quarter, leading to a Lexi Palmisano goal a minute later. After two more consecutive goals from the Hawks, the clock would continue to run as Saint Anselm held a 11-1 lead with 10:20 remaining in the half. After the Hawks were awarded a yellow card, Charleston would find their second goal of the game at the 5:49 mark after Tess Yuhas found a wide-open Allyssa Greaver right in front of the net as she sailed the ball easily past the goalie, making it her first goal of the season. Going into the halftime break, Saint Anselm held a 14-2 lead over Charleston.
The third quarter would slow down the game's scoring, giving both teams a chance to play at their own pace and work offensive plays. Jackson would score her second of the game at the 2:28 on a beautiful assist from Madison Partridge. The Hawks would manage four goals in the quarter, allowing for them to extend their lead to 18-3.
Despite the Hawks adding on three more goals to their scoreline, none of them were as crispy as Madison Partridge's goal at the 3:42 mark in the fourth quarter. On a pass from Kaiya Roberson, Partridge fired off a beautiful underhand shot into the lower corner, giving Charleston their fourth goal of the game. After it was all said and done, Saint Anselm left Maryland with a 21-4 victory over the Golden Eagles.
