Golden Eagles Improve to 19-2 After Sweeping Alderson Broaddus

Charleston, W.Va. – #13 Charleston sweeps Alderson Broaddus in a mid-week matchup. The Golden Eagles improve to 19-2 on the season before getting back into EIVA Conference play next week.
 
The Basics:

How it Happened:
The University of Charleston hosted Alderson Broaddus for a Tuesday evening out of conference matchup. The first few points of the game were back and forth but Charleston quickly took control of the set when they went on a 9-4 run making the first west score 12-8 UC. The Golden Eagles then increased their lead even further with a 5-1 run after several AB errors. Charleston who now led by seven where in control for the remainder of the set. Charleston closed out the set after going on a 6-2 run, taking set one 25-16 over the Battlers. The Golden Eagles were 15-28 with a .393% in the first set victory.
 
Set two was all Charleston as they opened with a 4-0 run before committing two errors to make the set 4-2. The Golden Eagles then responded with five straight points to quickly send the set out of reach for Ab, Charleston leading 9-2. It was smooth sailing for Charleston as they continued to extend their lead in the set, UC leading by twelve, 18-6. The next several points were traded back and forth until Charleston eventually closed the set out at 25-12.
 
The third set was much closer with both teams trading rallies back and forth. AB went on a 3-0 run to start the set but Charleston answered back with a 3-0 run of their own. The point trading continued, and the set was tied at 10-10. The set remained tight as both teams continued to trade points. Charleston gained the slight advantage as they went on a 4-1 run taking the 17-14 lead over the Battlers. Alderson Broaddus brought the set back to even at 21-21 after several UC errors, but Charleston shut down the Battlers as they went on a 4-0 run to close out the set 25-21 and sweep Alderson Broaddus in straight sets.
 
The Golden Eagles ended the match 35-66 with a .364 hitting percentage. Charleston had six aces in the victory.
 
Up Next:
The Golden Eagles will host EIVA opponent New Jersey Institute of Technology next weekend. Game one is set for Friday, March 31st at 7PM and game two will be played on Saturday, April 1st at 4PM.
