How it Happened
Quincy's Danielle Robinson had quite herself the day; she would score her first goal of the match just 43 seconds into the first quarter followed by Patricia Chavira's goal at the 13:32 mark for the early 2-0 lead. Antonia Martinez would open up the scoring for Charleston a minute later with her second goal of the season to cut the lead in half. Tess Yuhas would tie the game up at 2-2 after her goal with 8:47 remaining in the quarter. Josie Szamanda and Robinson would find the final two goals of the quarter to head into the second with the 4-2 lead. Despite the Quincy lead, they fired off eight shots on goal and Georgia Ryan denied half of them in the quarter on 11 total shots.
In the second period, Charleston would allow just one goal from the Hawks in the quarter. On the other end, the Golden Eagles would match Quincy's four goals from the opening period to take the lead. Destiny Jackson took the first of the quarter at the 14:19 mark after a great dish from Darby Stolz set up Jackson for the blazing shot into the net. Stolz would score the fourth goal of the game for Charleston by herself to make the game 5-4 in Quincy's favor with 8:29 left in the half. Stolz would then find a cutting Gianni Blundell for the goal to knot the game at 5-5. Tess Yuhas' goal at the 6:36 mark would give Charleston their first lead of the game at 6-5. Ryan would deny three shots with four on target, while the defense would force five turnovers out of the Hawks. Charleston would take their 6-5 advantage into halftime.
Seven combined goals would be scored in the third quarter by the two teams, but Charleston would outscore the Hawks in the third quarter following the break. Quincy's Danielle Robinson would find all three goals for the Hawks in the quarter. It would take Charleston nearly ten minutes to find their first goal of the second half, but it would be Madison Partridge with back-to-back goals to get Charleston up by two goals. The pair from Partridge would be followed up by another Gianni Blundell score at the 3:17 mark to make it a 9-6 Charleston lead. Following tow Danielle Robinson goals for Quincy, it would be Tess Yuhas with the final laugh of the period with a solo goal with 56 seconds remaining to move Charleston to a 10-8 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Blundell would open up scoring in the final period off the assist of Yuhas at the 10:09 mark to spread the margin to three scores. Charleston's 12
th goal of the game from Colleen Ryan would be one of the most bizarre plays you will ever see in women's lacrosse. Ryan would bounce her shot off the turf in attempt to get past the keeper, but it would ricochet in the air off the of the post. After what felt like a year and a half, the ball would come down from the air and bounce into the net for Ryan's first goal of the year at such a crucial time in the game. Robinson and Chavira would score two goals towards the end of the game to cut the lead to two scores, but Gianni Blundell would ice the game for the Golden Eagles with a score at the 1:22 mark for the 13-10 lead. With too little time left on the clock for Quincy, Charleston would find their first win of the year with the 13-10 victory.
